Diasporic Soul invites Black participants to reconnect with the cultural, spiritual, historical, artistic, and communal resources that have sustained Black life across generations. Through travel, ritual, storytelling, food, music, fashion, language, art, and history, participants encounter Soul as a source of knowledge, leadership, restoration, and collective care.

Culture is not something to observe here. It is a living resource — one that participants are invited to remember what they come from, reconnect with what sustains them, and carry home.

Questions we're asked most

Do I need a passport and a visa?

Yes to the passport — it must be valid for at least six months beyond your return date, with two blank pages. U.S. citizens do not currently need a visa for short stays in Senegal, but entry requirements change; we confirm the current rules with every cohort well before departure and walk first-time travelers through the passport application if needed.

How physically demanding is the journey?

Moderate. Expect walking on uneven ground, village walks, museum days, beach access, and several hours of travel between regions. There are rest periods built into every day, and the itinerary is paced for reflection rather than speed. Tell us about mobility needs at booking and we will plan around them.

What exactly is included in the $15,999?

Round-trip international airfare, accommodations, all ground transportation, three meals daily, guided excursions, admission to every scheduled site, local expert guides, educational programming, cultural performances, welcome and farewell events, airport transfers, and most gratuities. Passport fees, personal shopping, and travel insurance are the main things not covered.

Are payment plans available?

Yes. A deposit reserves your seat and the balance is scheduled across the months leading to departure. Sponsored and group rates are available for youth cohorts, alumni groups, fraternities and sororities, congregations, and organizations sending a delegation — ask us on the inquiry form.

What is the cancellation policy?

The deposit secures a limited seat and is non-refundable, with the balance following a tiered schedule tied to your departure date. The full policy is sent with your reservation agreement before any payment is made, so nothing about it is a surprise.

Do I need travel insurance?

We require it. Trip cancellation, interruption, and medical coverage protect an investment of this size, and we can point you to plans other travelers have used. Coverage is purchased separately so you keep the policy that fits your situation.

Can my group travel privately?

Yes. Universities, fraternities and sororities, faith communities, foundations, and companies can commission a private cohort with programming built for their people. Sponsorship for youth travelers is also available — several past cohorts traveled with institutional support.

Who travels with the group?

Every journey is accompanied by Diasporic Soul facilitators and local cultural bearers, historians, artists, and practitioners in Senegal. Rituals are led by the people whose traditions they belong to, and participation is always by invitation and consent.
